The Tower

The tower is 167 feet (about 50 metres) high, far higher than the roof of the original church. It was built by Abbot Marmaduke Huby at the end of the 15th century.
The tower is built in a fafhionable style and is decorated with inscriptions to the glory of God and with the abbot's initials.
Was the building of this tower an act of personal pride or another way of worshipping?
