Safe Viewing
The eclipse in North Yorkshire will be a partial eclipse, which means the harmful rays of the Sun will always be there to burn your eyes. You must not look directly at the Sun at any time before, during or after the eclipse. It will last about 2 ½ hours on the morning of August 11th 1999, so you will have plenty of time to see it using one of the safe methods given below.
To view the total eclipse, the easiest and safest method is to watch the live TV shows. In the event of a cloudy day this is how most people will see it.
There are a number of ways of safely watching the eclipse from where you are in North Yorkshire. Click for details of Eclipse Viewers.
Further safety information can be obtained from the web site www.eclipse.org.uk
