NameTed S
LocationFlorida
Age41
Diagnosed conditionAFIB
Years with condition11
Frequency of episodes3-5 times a year
Duration of episodes3-6 days ,usually 4-4.5 days
Event preceding first AFHoliday Season, engagement, Other Stress
General healthSmoker, Drinker, 20-30 lbs over weight
Current stateFuctional, no caffiene , attitude adjustment, dont let stress get to me, recently stopped smoking again.
TriggersCaffiene, Adrenaline , lack of sleep ,stress, excessive alcohol , excessive nicotene ,a bad combo of the above.

Being in a total state of rest and have something occur that 1)startles me for more than a few seconds (adrenaline rush) 2) waking up and having sex for a prolonged period of time (when possible;) 3) requires immediate phyical excurtion when not prepared.

Failure to take meds for more than 3-4 days in a row.Which has only happened once or twice in 11 years( I am good about taking meds.)

I have found certain foods (ie chocolate, cake with certain types of frosting) will do it. Sometimes things have lots of caffiene when you a least expect it.So i read labels when I wonder. I lot of things dont address caffeine on the label and should!
PreventionsRegular sleep! If I dont get 7- 8 hours a night i try to make it up on the weekend. I try to think before I act. I don't let things stress me out too much. (It may be a crummy attitude but frankly my health is more important to me , i have taken an attitude that I really dont give an fu__.) if I find that I am borderline AFIB I will deligate the problem to an employee and go on and deal with it later when I want too and can. Surprising this has worked really well and usually the problem gets resolved without me. It shows me I should delegate more.
Current medications/side effectsLanoxin .5mg alternating with .375 every other day
Lipitor Now 20mg use to take 10mg
Side Effects, well I hear that E.D. comes from lipitor and I have had that on and off over the years. But you can still shoot with a broken stick. I should take aspirin more often but it seems to make my face red or flush.
Past medications/side effectsI have been on both of these drugs for most of the eleven year. Insurance tried to change me last year to i think Zocor ?? not sure. I took it 1-3 months. We chnged ins co and I went back to Lipitor.

When I first was diagnois I was on coumidin for 2-3 years.
History of surgeryNone for this condition.
Future plansI plan ablation in the next few years. But a lot has changed in the last 10-11 years. When I first got this the only option involved open heart surgery. And at 30-31 that was not a good option. I have managed to keep this under relative control even though i have continued a relatively poor lifestyle.ie smoking, alcohol, smokin,.
I expect that the technology will continue to offer new options as it has so far I expect that before i reach upper 40's that I will seek a perminate soltion to this problem.
