Diagnosed condition | paroxysmal atrial fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 2 yrs |
---|
Frequency of episodes | first 2 were a month apart, then almost a year til the third. |
---|
Duration of episodes | 4hrs, about 24 hrs, about 12 hrs. |
---|
Event preceding first AF | working a rather gruesome night job, drinking lots of coffee because i am a morning person, not a niteowl. |
---|
General health | general good health except for overweight and mild hypertension. I don't smoke, am not asthmatic, am a light drinker, at the time of the first episode had not had anything alcoholic for about 3 months. |
---|
Current state | I feel quite well. At the time of the last hospitalization, all the tests they did came out quite normal, nothing to explain what caused the trouble. |
---|
Triggers | caffeine. I am okay as long as I have no more than 1 cup of tea in the morning. I don't drink coffee any more. I got the last episode by 2 nights without sleep, about 5 cups of tea during each of the 2 days so as to stay awake and work, and then climbing a steep hill with some steps in it. |
---|
Preventions | Stay off caffeine, is all I know. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | no medications right now except Prinivil for the blood pressure. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Digoxin was prescribed after the 2nd episode, and I took it for a few months, but it made me feel so tired all the time. If I lay down at all during the day I would fall right to sleep, and I couldn't climb stairs. One month it ran short when I didn't have money to refill it, and I began taking it every other day to make it last a little longer. I felt so much better on the days I didn't take it that I just discontinued it. I do take 1 aspirin in the morning and one at night, with the idea of preventing stroke. |

History of surgery | Appendix, 2 caesarians, vein stripping [varicose veins], d&c. |

Personal comments | I sure hope that mess does'nt happen any more! |
