Diagnosed condition | Paraoxysmal (lone) atrial fibrillation - no other heart problems |
---|
Years with condition | 7 years |
---|
Frequency of episodes | Hospitalized in 1997 for 7 days (first attach). I had no adea what AF was at the time |
---|
Duration of episodes | Nov 2003 (hospitalized for 3 days) |
---|
Event preceding first AF | None |
---|
General health | Excellent |
---|
Current state | Not too sure what's happening right now! |
---|
Triggers | 1997 was put on AMiodorone (200 mg) Warfarin (was always 3mg but no forever changing (mostly higher). Medication stopped working last year and was causing a lot of missed beats, etc. The Cardiolgist I saw privately took me off the Amiodorone (takes 6 months to get out of your system). However my seventh month was last Nov 03 and I went straight back into AF. |
---|
Preventions | Don't know any really, although I sometimes think getting too tired may be a contributing factor. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Now on Sotalol, 40mg twice a day. Warfarin (dose keeps changes constantly at the moment) No side effects but it hasn't put my heart back in rythmn Sotolol that is)(it's quite irregular at times). I am now awaiting to see an Electro-Cardiologist in a couple of months time. Feeling a little more hopeful! I certainly do not find the doctors very helpful at all (they appear to know very little about AF and never seems to be able to discuss or answer questios that I ask them). |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Amiodorone (200 mg) and Warfarin (3 mg). Amiodorone was an awful drug for the first 6 months - made me feel so ill, shakey, sick and lost a lot of weight. However, after that period it was wonderful for 4 years - I was able to carry on normally with everything, apart from swimming that is. Apparently you can not swin if you have AF and cold water is a BIG "no-no", I was told it could kill you (that info was from a consultant). Oh yes, I was given Flecainide but it made me extemely ill after 3 days and on leaving it off I ended up in AF! |
---|
History of surgery | None |
---|
Future plans | Hopefully, to be able to find a cure and carry on normally for a few more years. |
---|
Personal comments | It's so nice to have found your site and hopefully we can all be of help to one another in some way or another. |
