Name | bacanon |
---|
Location | NY suburbs |
---|
Age | 63 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | atrial fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 6+ |
---|
Frequency of episodes | none in the past vew months with medication & lots of excercise |
---|
Duration of episodes | few minutes to days, when occurring |
---|
Event preceding first AF | prolonged intestinal upset |
---|
General health | quit smoking in 1999 - drink less wine and no caffeinated drinks - except tea |
---|
Current state | very good - just did a half marathon, but experienced swelling and redness in ankles - Dr. agrees it is from the coumadin |
---|
Triggers | I think they are mostly caffeine - was probably also smoking and a steady diet of a little too much wine.
I also think that anger is a big one for me - and fear of the condition. I have always tended toward depression, and I began to feel like being alone would kill me. I am now with my husband and son. |
---|
Preventions | exercise |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Toprol XL 100mg, digoxin .25, coumadin 2.5, lipitor 10mg, synthroid .75
I also take a multiple vitamin, calcium 1000 mg, Vitamin E, Co-Q-10 |
---|
Past medications/side effects | At first, took only Toprol and Aspirin, until a prolonged bout with afib that required electrocardioversion to return to sinus rhythym. That's when they added digoxin and put me on coumadin instead of aspirin. I didn't go on synthroid until later |
---|
History of surgery | none - except removal of a red raised "mole" (forgot the word for it) |
---|
Future plans | look into ablations (sp?) - I'm very scared of the prospect, but feel I should try. |
---|
Personal comments | I have a sister with a pacemaker, another died at 2 days old from "blue baby" condition (probably a hole in her valve), so I feel there is a heart defect in the family. My mother and father died with strokes contributing to their demise. I want to get off of coumadin - and if possible off of toprol and digoxin as well - then lipitor too. But I don't want a stroke. |
