Name | Steve |
---|
Location | Kansas City, MO |
---|
Age | 46 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 10 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 3/month |
---|
Duration of episodes | variable, 1-2 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | stress, lack of sleep |
---|
General health | Overweight, non-smoker general health good |
---|
Current state | Tolerating with medication |
---|
Triggers | Stress, lack of sleep, sugary foods |
---|
Preventions | Exercise seems to help, low carb diet seems to help |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Toprol XL 50 mg daily and Digoxin .25 mg daily.
Something makes me tired and dopey, but it isn't constant. It seems that if I get lots of sleep (10 hours) that the tired/dopey symptoms lessen. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Was on digoxin alone, higher dose. Controlled a/f well for a couple of years, then required higher dosage, finally added Toprol XL and dropped digoxin dose in third year, have been on that combination with reasonable success for 7 years. Cardiologist pushing Rhythmol/Betapace, I haven't seen the need to switch. |
---|
History of surgery | Tonsils as a youth, no other surgical experience. |
---|
Future plans | Try to live life normally and avoid getting depressed. I struggle with the feeling that I'm going to die soon--no particular rational reason for that. |
