Nameanon
LocationLondon, UK
Age29
Diagnosed conditionPersistent fast AF
Years with condition1 year 2 months
Frequency of episodesPersistent
Event preceding first AFWas fit as a fiddle - just had a sudden onset one evening on the way back from work
General healthFine
Current stateStill in persistent - have had 8 cardioversions in a year and am awaiting Maze surgery
TriggersDon't know any -each time I went into AF it was different situation and the time in between relapses was getting less and less - I can stay in normal sinus rhythm for about a month.
PreventionsNone - medication is only controlling the rate and nothing else. It doesn't keep me in normal sinus rhythm. SO have been referred for surgery.
Current medications/side effectsI am generally quite low on energy and cannot function enough to work. I am not as sharp as I used to be. I do have very active dreams and sometimes nightmares ever since I have been on medication, which has been changed several times. I have also gained a bit of weight but that may also be due to the lack of activity.
Past medications/side effectsSame as above
Future plansHave been referred to surgeons for the possibility of the Maze procedure
Personal commentsI has a sudden onset of fast AF 13 months ago and have had several cardioversions. The medication has only controlled my heart rate. I have tricuspid regurge and enlarged right and left atriums. It'a mystery to my cardiologists and have now been referred for surgery. I am allergic to warfrin and take phenindione and frusimide which are not included in the list of medications. And have been on several medications which on have not maintained normal sinus rhythm.
