NameTrudyjh
LocationCalifornia
Age59
Diagnosed conditionlone paroxysmal afib and paroxysml SVT
Years with conditionknown since October 2000, but perhaps milder before that and confused with panic attacks
Frequency of episodesa big mess initially, it took finding a good, caring doc, and experimenting with dosage of toprol to get to the present state which is much better, see below.
Duration of episodesthree years out from the diagnosis, I have episodes of multiple ectopics a minute every few months, and an uptick in ectopics every few weeks, but only a few seconds of afib in the past year.
Event preceding first AFhuge stress
General healthgood, non-smoker, non-drinker. overweight, and the beta blocker has made that a lot worse. recently high cholesterol.
Current statesee above
Triggersstress, indigestion, weight (5 pound) lifting exercise, some foods (caffeine, lemon.)
PreventionsTrying to stay calm. Trying to deal with indigestion, liquid mylanta seems to help that, also prevacid.
Current medications/side effectstoprol xl(50 mg) causes shortness of breath and limits ability to exercise. also seems to cause depression.

can't take aspirin for anti-clotting because it causes urinary pain. doc says I don't need coumadin yet.

Past medications/side effectscipro caused multiple PVCs a minute and small bouts of afib. I went back to normal within a day of stopping the cipro. detrol caused mild tachycardia.
Future plansTrying relaxation techniques. Trying to lose weight, not succeedng.
Personal commentsI am wondering how many of us have had afib for years and had it misdiagnosed as panic attacks or were having both conditions at the same time.
