Diagnosed condition | proximal afib & atrial flutter |
---|
Years with condition | 6, treated for only 1.5 year |
---|
Frequency of episodes | unmedicated = many times / day, 50% reduction |
---|
Duration of episodes | >1min to <5hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | no recent illnesses |
---|
General health | allergic predisposition |
---|
Current state | improved but still not controlled on meds, side effects minimal |
---|
Triggers | more pronounced late in day through night and early morning hours, laying down |
---|
Preventions | medication only |
---|
Current medications/side effects | dofetilide - feeling much better as far as side effects go. Current doseing 375mg bid. Doesn't control the afib yet but it has reduced the number of episodes and to some extent their duration. Unusual occurance - marked dizzyness 2 hours lasting about 1.5 hours before AM dose of dofetilide. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | disopyramide - muddy thinking, unable to find words and verbalize them well, dizzy, blurry vision, neurological weakness and uncoordinated hands/arms, tonal tinnitus in both ears, increased migraines, dryness of eyes (painful), constipation, gut discomfort
flecainide - fatigue, very dizzy, loss of appetite, muddy thinking, unable to find words and verbalize them well, numbness of mouth and lips, migraine headaches, malaize, moderate sleep onset difficulty. After 8 weeks severe acute sharp left side chest pain, PM fevers, burning in lungs with exercize, extreme fatigue and malaise, pleurisy, constant caugh, and fluid bubbling in lungs when prone.
Aspirin - no difficulty
Toprol - bradycardia
Amiodarone - severe sleep problems (not well counteracted by Ambien, no positive effect with lorazepam). These side effects persisted very strongly for 84 days and continued noticibly for 118 days. Warfarin therapy was never in control and dangerously high INR = 10.
Cardizem - didn't control Afib - used before ablation |
---|
History of surgery | Ablation 60 days following amiodarone therapy termination. It was preformed blindly because I would not return to afib during the procedure. It is suspected that this was in part due to the fact I was still under the influence of the amiodarone at the time. The ablation failed within 12 hours. |
---|
Future plans | After 2.5 weeks on drug check with cardio to see if dofetilide dose should be increased. |
---|
Personal comments | I have received great comfort from this list and it's wealth of experience. Thank you! |
