Name | Jane Gurney |
---|
Location | Loughborough U.K. |
---|
Age | 48 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Cronic A.F. |
---|
Years with condition | 13 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | now cronic |
---|
Duration of episodes | all the time |
---|
Event preceding first AF | Party lots of alcohol and smoking |
---|
General health | Exellent but out of condition, now non- drinker, non- smoker non- excerciser ! mild hayfever . |
---|
Current state | Pacemaker controls palpitations, now need new one, do get very weary now, |
---|
Triggers | I'm in cronic A'F .But it some times seems to fibrillate 2-3 times 'faster' than my 'normal'. Triggers on these occasions are, hunger, eating too much, tiredness, my heart positively HATES adrenalin, monthly hormonal cycle, alcohol, (darn't have one sip) nicotine. |
---|
Preventions | Once it starts, I take 100mg Metoprolol, that works most times,(thats every day) If it kicks in late et night, I take another 50-100mg metoprolol, that works eventually! meaning, I wake in the morning and it's gone! What has worked more than anything is having this *!*!* illness for 13 years! you sort of, almost get used to it, in other words, the power of positive thought, whilst it doesn't exactly prevent an episode, doesn't exacerbate it either. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Metoprolol and Asprin. I self medicate the metoprolol, in that I only take it once symptoms have kicked in.So some days, I 'only' take 100mg, other 'bad' days, 150-200mg.Aspirin= 75mg per day. Side effects of metoprolol is to make me very, very fatiqued about an hour after taking it. I yawn and yawn my head off! My eyes feel like someone threw powder in them they're so dry. Then that wears off and I'm back to 'my' normal.(?) |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Over last ten years, cardiologist tried loads of different drugs. I did'nt memorize names, but none worked for long. Finished up on amioderone, but did'nt want that for possibly 35-40 more years, so stopped that and had a pacemaker and ablation. |
---|
History of surgery | Just ablation and pacemaker 7 years ago. It's lifespan is almost over now, so I'll have to have a new one in next twelve months. |
---|
Future plans | After next pacemaker.which I'm hoping is even better than this one, I want to lose weight and excercise, and resemble Jane Fonda! Up to now, attitude has been, "why bother" if I'm going to drop dead perhaps with the next 'attack' of A.F.Now I don't think I will drop dead with A.F (thanks entirely to finding A.F web-sites) and feel optimistic about a future,(like having one!)I want to plant my saplings and watch them grow... Not to mention my six sons growing as well!!! To be calm, be happy, have a life... |
---|
Personal comments | If life on earth is a test we A.Fibbers are sorely tested! A friend of mine died of some thing grim recently, but I did'nt, I'm still here, so I'm actually the lucky one, I only got A.F!!!! Long term ,(within 5 years max) I'll have Maze. And try and teach myself to be strong when my 'double' A.F has kicked in!! |
