Name | Tom |
---|
Location | Perth , Western Australia |
---|
Age | 71 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | Twelve years |
---|
Frequency of episodes | Originally every six months , gradually increasing to current approx eight day cycle |
---|
Duration of episodes | From about twelve hours to about thirty six hours . Mostly about eighteen hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | Over exertion in a swimming pool |
---|
General health | Other than PAF very well and fit . Five years ago had angioplasty and stent for blocked RCA . |
---|
Current state | Lifestyle very restricted by AF . For instance I am now anxious about travelling long distances |
---|
Triggers | More than one glass of wine . Fatigue . Most common trigger is NO trigger . Nearly always occurs when
I am sitting down in front of Telly in the evening or soon after lying down in bed .
|
---|
Preventions | It seems that when I am due for an episode nothing on earth will prevent it . |
---|
Current medications/side effects | One half an aspirin . My cardiologist is not in favour of warfarin / coumadin for me and does not want me on
amiodarone or any other anti-arrthythmic .I am also on 10mg per day of Tritace or Ramipril ( Hope Trial )
and 10mg per day Pravachol to keep blood lipid profile acceptable'
|
---|
Past medications/side effects | Have tried magnesium and a host of other vitamin supplements . All to no avail . |
---|
History of surgery | Five years ago angioplasty and stent for blocked right coronary artery . |
---|
Future plans | Am not emotionally ready for Cox Maze 3 . Believe that Ablation of Pulmonary veins is my best bet .
However am concerned that at the present time the risk of a pulmonary stenosis may be too high .
Am watching out for advances in cryoablation with diminished risk of a stenosis . |
