Duration of episodeson and off pretty much all day
Event preceding first AFDiabetes, high cholesterol, borderline high blood pressure, sleep apnea
General healthsmoker, otherwise very healthy...until THIS
Current stateon meds but they are NOT helping sick of feeling this already
Triggerseating beyond not being hungry, caffeine, maybe even my meds, stress, salty foods, maybe everything maybe it's all in my head but the heart racing/palping doesn't lie and it's VERY real
Preventionsnothing has stopped it for very long so in my oppinion that means failure.
Current medications/side effectsAtenolol 25 mg one half pill twice a day, then we stopped that and put me on Metoprolol 75 mg twice a day, plus simvastatin 20 mg daily for cholesterol, plus Metformin 500 mg twice daily for Diabetes, PLUS a 325 mg aspirin every day
plus I'm suppose to use a c-pap every night but I keep pulling it off in my sleep ( I'm a bit of a chlosterphobic )
Past medications/side effectsas I said above, was on Atenolol 25 mg half a pill twice daily now discontinued. It didn't help, either.
History of surgeryAppendectomy at age 8, 2 laporoscopies in mid and late 30's A colonoscopy in Sept 2008.
For THESE particular diagnosises, I have so far had an echocardiogram which showed no damage and the size of the heart looked normal. I have had a thyroid test and it was normal. I have had my hormones checked out and the blood work said except for a couple leaning towards menopause, everything looked normal. Will be going in for an upper GI next week ( first week of Nov, 2008 ) EKG's in ER showed PSVT and/or RAF.
Future plansWould like to HAVE a future & if I can get rid of this I might. Am trying to get a doctor to submit a provider request to my Insurance company for prior authorization for me to be seen at the Mayo Clinic so I can see an Electrophysiologist and find out if I really have both PSVT and RAF of just one or the other and what type(s) and hopefully get ablation and all the questions answered that go with it as I am still not sure what is going on and have MANY moe questions than answers.
Personal commentssee all of the above. Would also like to know if I have some sort of arterial disease and maybe some artery blockage...reasons why this came on and happened so fast. Before this happened, I had been diagnosed with diabetes 3 years prior and sleep apnea 1 year prior and high cholesterol 2 years prior and heard so many horror stories about Big Pharma and the Pill Pushers (sounds like a 50's rock band) and such that I stopped all my prescription meds and tried to control these ailments with herbs and such. I was not faithful in my diet nor was I consistent in taking the herbals everyday so I failed miserably and my numbers were out in orbit when this came on. Since then I am back on pharma meds and have lost 40 lbs and have gone from smoking 1 and a half to 2 packs a day to 10 to 15 a day and I eat beans, brown rice on occasion, some fruits and lots of veggies, mostly. I even completely removed the chocolate food group from my food pyramid! Gave up any fast, take-out salty cholesterol ridden sugary saturated fat ANYTHING from MY menu. Which pretty much leaves bird seed. (just kidding, but almost.)
