NameBarb
LocationMA
Age59
Diagnosed conditiontacycardia, atrial fib
Years with condition18 years, tachy - 2 1/2 years - a fib
Frequency of episodestachy became several times daily at the onset of the afib - afib initally every few weeks, lasting only a few seconds, then a few times per week, again only lasting 5 or 10 seconds - annoying, but manageable
Duration of episodeshad a 3 1/2 hours episode a few weeks ago (my first of that duration) went to the ER - they used magnesium, cardizem and adavan in the IV for conversion -
Event preceding first AFin 05 - was treated for Lyme disease - had all the symptoms but no positive on the testing - was on doxy for about 10 weeks- prior to all this I had gone thru about 3 years of extreme stress ...
General healthnever smoked, never drank, health is very good for my age, aside from this
Current stateafter the 3 hour episode - I am having a hard time coming to grips with this - I am afraid to go anyplace for fear it will happen away from home and then what will I do...........the mental aspect is as bad as the physical for me
Triggersphysical exertion after eating - eating until I feel full-
rushing to get someplace on time - being tired -
PreventionsI recently doubled my dose of lopressor - I am hoping that will stop it - but it's too soon to tell at this point
Current medications/side effectsLopressor (metoprolol) - ice cold hands and feet, a bit off balance at times, overwhelming tiredness
Past medications/side effectsnone - when I only had the tachycardia I refused meds - with the afib - I gave in and am sorry I didn't do so sooner.

The first two years of the afib I refused to take anything - always thinking it would "go away"
History of surgerylast surgery was over 10 years ago (hysterectomy) I don't see any correlation between the two
Future planskeep searching for an answer to make this "go away"
Personal commentsHas anyone tried acupuncture??? Herbs??? Sometimes I feel like it's due to a chemical imbalance - like when your eye twitches or you get a leg cramp (calcium works for the leg cramps) why not something of that nature for the heart - it is a muscle.......

I see a mainstream cardiologist - and I also see a holistic cardiologist - take Vit D, magnesium, b complex, fish oil
I find it interesting that in the ER one of the things they gave me was magnesium in the IV.......
