Name | Darin |

Location | Alberta Canada |
---|
Age | 38 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | a-fib |
---|
Years with condition | 4 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | never goes away |
---|
Duration of episodes | never goes away, only gets less severe |
---|
Event preceding first AF | none that I know of. I believe stress to be the initiator |
---|
General health | reasonable, I do smoke (yea, I know my bad...) |
---|
Current state | I feel as though I am quite ill as my condition puts quite firm limits on me |
---|
Triggers | I have symptoms almost constantly, I don't think any one thing initiates it |
---|
Preventions | None of the zillions (OK, maybe I embellished a LITTLE ;-)) of doctors I have seen have been able to make this go completely away. They just keep poking and dosing me. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | I take amniodarone (200 mg BID) Atacand (16mg once a day) Bisoprolol (5mg once a day) Rat poison (Warfarin) (7mg once a day) and carvidelol. The Amiodarone has caused some torubling side effects, I see a blueish haze around everything, and my skin is turning a lovely shade of blue-grey. The most troubling thing is that I am told that the hue of my skin is probably permanent. The doctors in thier obtuse humour (it actualy seems worse than mine) call it 'smurf syndrome' believe it or not. Everyone notices, I get stared at constantly. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | none |
---|
History of surgery | I have had two ablations and am slated for yet another. Anyone that has endured one of these things, will empathise. They are not too fun. They start with a two hour trans esophageal echo and go down hill from there. |
---|
Future plans | Try to keep my spirits up, try to beat this darn thing. Try to keep my doctor apts. Try to keep my sense of humour and try to keep my composure. |
---|
Personal comments | I am curious if anyone else has this to the degree I do. Has anyone else have/had this condition be as persistant as mine seems to be? The symptoms can (read ARE) very distracting and a little scary. I spend about one out of eight weeks in the cardio care unit of either the local hospital, or the larger hospital three hours away in a much larger city (where the electro-cardiologist keeps shop). Even lying in bed I have trouble breathing, climbing a flight of stairs can be a real chore. I sweat constantly and to a degree that I have to be careful I don't dehydrate. I sweat even sitting in a chair watching TV. The thing that bothers me the most is my poor kid. He wants to go for a walk, I can't, he wants to play hockey, I want to as well, but my darn body won't agree. I would have the doctors make me bionic if I could play with my son again. Is anyone else in this boat? |
