Current medications/side effects | Had AF for 15-20 years without fully realising. 4 years ago events became far worse but nothing could be done until they were caught on ECG. Results showed fibrillation with sporadic flutter. Went through complete range of drug treatments to no avail. Eventually had ablation for flutter which minimised symptoms by 40% making life much easier. Recently August 2007 on have been getting events every 3/4 days which are making my life miserable. During event am unable to walk due to interuppted blood suply to muscles. All the usual symptoms but never know when it will revert spontaneously. Unable to work the last few months due to events. |

Past medications/side effects | Warfarin,
Digoxin, Soltalol,
Current
Flecainide acetate
Bisoporol
All usual efffects |

History of surgery | Atrial fluttet ablation |

Personal comments | Remember that it is your heart and if you are not happy with anything DO NOT let it go ahead. It seems that atriall fibrilltion cannot be cured only minimised and something like flecainide has serious effects on other drugs which doctors may want to give in the future.
Warafin usage in the U.K. is standard practise in a lot of places but if you are not happy with it TELL THEM.
My consultant said that at the age of 50 the risk of a blood clot in the brain far outwieghed the benefits of taking warfarin full time . Also was unhappy at being kept at very high levels 4-4.5 for weeks at a time.
