Name | Joe B. |
---|
Location | St. Louis, MO |
---|
Age | 43 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | a-fib |
---|
Years with condition | 10 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | depends, at times every day |
---|
Duration of episodes | varies - longest was 36 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | none |
---|
General health | smoked for a few years in college, was a weekly drinker (occasionally heavy), jog 3 times a week - 2 miles each time. |
---|
Current state | after several weeks of frequent episodes, I recently went on Tykosyn. This hasn't worked either. |
---|
Triggers | Not sure. Believe drinking and stress. Also possibly lack of sleep and dehydration. Truthfully I think if I avoided all these things I would still have some a-fib. |
---|
Preventions | none. I have stopped drinking caffiene and alcohol but that hasn't helped. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Tykosyn - no side effects yet. Also a daily aspirin. Also taking cardizem again and recently started coumadin in preparation for ablation |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Took cardizem for 7 years. Kept the a-fib in check for 6 years but also caused dizzieness due to low heart rate. Eventually this did not control the A-Fib. Feel much better in general since I stopped taking it, but having more A-Fib. |
---|
History of surgery | Only a pyloric stenosis when I was 5 weeks old. |
---|
Future plans | Ablation since Tykosyn doesn't seem to work. |
---|
Personal comments | Wish I really knew what caused this. Would love to be off the drugs. Tired of feeling dizzy. I am worried about long term effects of ablation, as this is a fairly new procedure. |
