Diagnosed condition | ATRIAL FIBRILLATION |
---|
Years with condition | 8 YEARS WITH NSR IN BETWEEN |
---|
Frequency of episodes | FIRST CV IN MAY 1998 PLUS PACEMAKER IN MAY 1998; NSR TO 2002 & CV #2; NSR TO FEB 2006 & 3RD CV; NSR TO APR 2006 & 4TH CV; AF AGAIN IN MAY 2006 NO CV |
---|
Duration of episodes | SEE ABOVE |
---|
Event preceding first AF | COINCIDENTAL: PROSTRATE CANCER TREATMENTS IN 2002 |
---|
General health | EXCELLENT |
---|
Current state | IN AF NOW |
---|
Triggers | I WAS A COMPETITIVE SWIMMER FROM COLLEGE IN 1951 UNTIL 1987. THEN SWITCHED TO COMPETITIVE ROWING. CONTINUED ROWING WITH PACEMAKER BUT I HAVE STOPPED RACING AFTER LAST AF IN MAY 2006. I STILL ROW - LIGHTLY. MY TRIGGER BELIEF: PHYSICAL STRESS WHEN PERFORMING MAXIMUM PHYSICAL OUTPUT (E.G. MOVING FROM AEROBIC TO ANAEROBIC WORK) WHICH LIKE THE FIGHT/FLIGHT RESPONSE RELEASES ADRENALIN AND OTHER STRESS TRIGGERED SUBSTANCES WHICH THEN TRIP ME OUT OF NSR. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PATTERN FOR EVERY ONE OF MY NSR TO AFIB EVENTS. |
---|
Preventions | I SUPPOSE AVOIDING MAXIMUM PHYSICAL OUTPUT, BUT ONE CAN'T VERY WELL RACE COMPETITIVELY UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS. SO . . . I'M IN AF WITH CARDIOLOGY FOLLOWUP EVERY 60 DAYS AND PRIMARY CARE GIVER FOLLOWUP EVERY 90 DAYS. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | COUMADIN (WITH INR TEST EVERY 2 OR 4 WEEKS, DEPENDING ON READING). 20 MG LISINOPRIL (ZESTRIL). 0.125 MG LANOXIN-DIGOX. AND 0.4 MG FLOMAX (FOR POST PROSTRATE CARE). SIDE EFFECTS: WITH COUMADIN-NATURALLY- I CUT & BRUISE EASILY.
|
---|
Past medications/side effects | NONE, REALLY |
---|
History of surgery | SEE PROSTRATE TREATMENT ABOVE. SOON: REPLACEMENT OF BOTH KNEES. |
---|
Future plans | MONITORING. LET'S SEE WHAT DEVELOPS WITH MEDICATIONS AND ABLATIONS. NO RUSH. CONTINUE EXERCISE BUT WITHOUT STRESS OF MAX OUTPUT RACING. |
---|
Personal comments | A LONG-TIME (AND AGING) ATHLETE WITH AN ENLARGED HEART. MY CARDIOLOGIST & THE THAT PRACTICE'S ELECTROPHYSIOLOGIST RECOMMEND AGAINST CURRENT MEDICAL AFIB PHARMOCOLOGY AND CURRENT ABLATION PROCEDURES. WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR. |
