Tikosyn (caused elongation of QT wave)
Metoprolol (depending on dose, it causes very low pressure and lightheadness)

Past medications/side effectsAmiodarone - After loading and increase in dose, it worked well for about 3 months. I stopped it recently because it was not controlling AF very well and I had side effects (skin problems and possibly mental fatigue);
Rhythmol(no side effects, but it didn't control AF)
Norpace (caused constipation, it did a great job of controlling AF in the middle of the night but I had to stop taking it because I started having more AF during the day)
History of surgeryN/A
Future plansI just started Tikosyn in mid May 2001. I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and need to get that treated before deciding what else, if anything, I need to do for the AF.
Personal commentsMy father has AF. and my 42-year-old sister was also just diagnosed with AF. They suffer from congestive heart failure. Luckily, my heart muscle is healthy. In 01/00, I had a moderate to large stroke in right temporal area the day after a cardioversion. I had the cardioversion because I had been in atrial flutter for about 40 hours. For four months before the cardioversion, I was taking rhythmol and aspirin and unfortunately was not taking coumadin at the time.
