Diagnosed condition | Atrial Fibrillation - Paroxysmal, Lone (Vagally-mediated) |
---|
Years with condition | 10 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 1 every 1-2 months |
---|
Duration of episodes | 12 - 15 hours |
---|
General health | Excellent - No heart problems - No smoker - Light drinker |
---|
Current state | NSR |
---|
Triggers | Afib attack always at rest after intense physical exercise (4-6 hours later),or after emotional stress.
Anxiety - Chocolate (not always) - Only 1 time after indian food - Sleeping on left side - Very important think, each AFib attack coincides with a spastic colon attack. |
---|
Preventions | Very warm bath,
Physical effort can stop an attack,
Taking drugs (mebeverine or propanthelline) for preventing colon problems seems prevent Afib (vagolytic effects?). |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Flecainide (Tambocor) 100 mg/day - No side effects
Magnesium (600 - 700 mg element/day) |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Propranolol - Very good for preventing attacks but heart rythm very slow, lot of missed beats and i was very tired. Now, if i made an intense effort (sport etc...) immediately after i take 10 or 20 mg of propranolol (Inderal) and it seems that the prevention is effective. |

Personal comments | My Afibs attacks are not debilating - During attacks my heart rythm is 80-85 bpm and i have no serious effects. I hope that AFib will remain paroxysmal. If not,as i don't want take blood thinner all my live, i will see for ablation or for maze procedure. My mother, 80 years old, lives also with paroxysmal attacks from 30 years. For my case (and for a lot of people like me), i'm sure that the fibrillation is only a problem of imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.I don't understand why this disease seems concern only the cardiologists. |
