 | AFibbers Database: Steve G. | | |
Name | Steve G. |
---|
Location | Santa Monica CA USA |
---|
Age | 66 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | atrial fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 11 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | once per week |
---|
Duration of episodes | 30 minutes |
---|
General health | never smoked, heavy drinker until 13 years ago, now none, 20 lbs overweight, out of shape, cholesterol |
---|
Current state | afib controlled well currently by Sotalol |
---|
Triggers | None known - occurence seems random |
---|
Preventions | None known. Usual conversion methods usually don't work. An extra sotalol sometimes seems to stop it. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Sotalol, 80mg 3x/day prescribed, but I take 2x/day to save money |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Sequence of meds (all taken in addition to lanoxin), each working for a couple of years:
quinidine, quinaglute, tambocor, rythmol, sotalol. Each drug gradually lost effectiveness.
Awaiting long-term results with sotalol. |
---|
History of surgery | None for heart. |
---|
Future plans | Keep on sotalol until and if it stops working, then on to the next. My afib
is currently well-controlled and does not warrant more drastic steps. |
---|
Personal comments | My mother had the same thing for many years, controlled with drugs, and
lived to 91. Killed by stroke, not known whether associated with afib. |
