Personal comments | I was diagnosed with PAT in 1993, controlled with mild doses of digoxin, then digitoxin plus atenolol. In June 2005 afib was diagnosed (I was in the rhythm at an annual checkup).
Dr Roy John (Lahey Clinic - Burlington, MA) took a conservative approach as the first procedure indicated atrial flutter only. The second procedure was focal in nature, and did not control the rate or rhythm. I was on amiodarone and toprol XL. Side effects were a brain that slowed way down and gave me similar symptoms to alzheimers or senility. When I stopped the Amiodarone, the symptoms stopped but the afib came back, leading to the third and final procedure in May 2006. Depression became and issue so toprol was stopped as well. I am now off all medication and feeling better than ever.
My brother also has had ablations at Cleveland Clinic (Dr Natale) but had several small strokes. He is now asymptomatic as well - see Peter in Houston on this website. |
