Name | telboy |
---|
Location | UK and Portugal |
---|
Age | 55 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Chronic AF |
---|
Years with condition | Diagnosed in 1999 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 24/7 |
---|
Duration of episodes | na |
---|
Event preceding first AF | None known, but do suffer from stress |
---|
General health | Smoker, drink one litre beer/day, no spirits, no drugs. |
---|
Current state | April 2004, going in to Atrial Flutter. But normally not a prob. unless I do anything at all strenuos, like walk up 2 flights of stairs |
---|
Triggers | As I am in constant AF, I do not even think about triggers. But I do avoid caffeine ( I do remember one event before AF diagnosed, drinking strong coffee and almost immediately feeling my heart beat change) and try to avoid stress.
|
---|
Preventions | None except sleep |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Sotalol 160mg
Warfarin 5/6mg
Recent addition of Digoxin 125mg( only 2 days)
Recent addition of Thyroxine ( TSH up to 4.5) |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Amidarone.....UNBELIEVABLE. When first diagnosed I was put on to this..within 3 weeks I was in NSR and felt 21 again.
Little sensitive to strong sunlight. Don`t recall any other side effects. Deposits built up in eyes, but no visual disturbances.
Gradually benefit seemed to wear off.
NHS in my new area of UK do not like Amiodarone and withdrew immediately. Put me on Digoxin, only, within 3 months my Thyroid had gone into overdrive..HypoThyroid state, not nice!! ( they did not check Throid before taking me off Amidarone?) |
---|
History of surgery | Electro cardioversion tried in 1999, only 4 months after first diagnosis. Went back into nsr for 4 days, then back to AF
None, but Papworth Hospital suggest Pacemaker and AV node ablation. I have so far declined as I `m not convinced it is the answer. |
---|
Future plans | Desperatle hope and trust in the Medecine men to find a cure for this problem, which seems to be becoming almost epidemic in size. Will suffer the probs unless it gets hopeless, then I will consider pacing, as a last resort |
---|
Personal comments | Seems to me that there is much divided opinion in not only country to country, but within countries themselves, as to the best way to tackle the prob. As my original cardio said.
Do you want to live well for the next 20 years and then Maybe have a prob within Amiodarone effects, or suffer from AF 24/7 for the rest of your life? Its a tough call to make when you don`t know the answer. |
