Age | 36 |

Diagnosed condition | Lone A-Fib |
---|
Years with condition | 8 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 4 times a day |
---|
Duration of episodes | 30 seconds normally, recently had 24 hour episode |
---|
Event preceding first AF | None |
---|
General health | Good health, light drinker. A little sleep deprived |
---|
Current state | Still get several very short episodes, no extended ones for 2 months |
---|
Triggers | Things such as alcohol, caffeine, stress, lack of sleep and especially standing up too quickly are definitely triggers. However, even when I avoid these things I still get short bouts of a-fib for no apparent reason.
|
---|
Preventions | No known prevention |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Currently on Cardizem. No apparent side effects, but also doesn't seem to control my heart rate or my a-fib very effectively. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Previously I was on Metoprolol. It definitely slowed my heart rate way down, but did not curb my short bouts of a-fib whatsoever. Metoprolol also made me very lethargic and tired. Lack of sex drive.

---|
History of surgery | None |
---|
Personal comments | Cardiologist can't find any defects in my heart, but may want to start me on antiarrythmia meds. I'm not sure these are safe. Metoprolol and Cardizem seem to be safe, but don't control a-fib much, only slow the heart rate. I recently read that it's more important to control the heart rate than the a-fib. I'm not sure what to believe, but I'm tired of being scared and uncomfortable most every day. |
