General health | good |

Current state | under control for three weeks |

Triggers | I began taking Diovan for hypertension. The first night I
took it, I went into tachycardia - not noticing Afib. On the eight day I was so disoriented from the Diovan that I was stressed. I can't remember if I drank anything cold before the attack. After the first attack, I had three small attacks lasting only a few seconds after drinking cold water and cold club soda. The last attack I had lasted 11 hours and it was after I gulped down cold club soda out of a bottle. |
---|
Preventions | I am on sotalol and digoxin since my last attack. I am avoiding gulping drinks down or drinking anything cold. Before I started taking Diovan, I drank everything icy cold and did not get an attack. However, I can remember one time last summer when I took my pulse and it was erratic for a few minutes. Had not had a problem for almost a year until I started the Diovan. I don't know whether the meds are keeping the afib under control or eliminating cold beverages. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Sotalol, 80 mg. am and pm, Digoxin, 250 mcg.; Ecotrin, 81 mg
I was a little tired and short of breath with the above meds but I have been on them for three weeks now and seem to have no problem. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Diovan: Within 7 hours after taking first pill, tachycardia, dizziness, soaking wet, could barely stand up. Was like this for 8 days until I went into atrial fib.
I was then put on Diltiazam but I think the effects of the Diovan had not diminished, so put on Toprol XL. I felt heaviness in my ears and tingly in my face. The nurse practioner decreased the am dosage and went into afib after drinking cold beverage. The cardio. thinks the dosage was too little to prevent afib. I think it was the cold beverage. Who knows. |

History of surgery | No heart surgery |
---|
Future plans | Stay away from icy cold beverages and Diovan!!! |
