Name | graeme middlemiss |
---|
Location | Farnham, UK |
---|
Age | 45 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | AF |
---|
Years with condition | 4 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | variable, tends to come in bouts, maybe 1 week on 2 weeks off |
---|
Duration of episodes | 1-12 hours, drugs can return to sinus in 2 hours usually |
---|
Event preceding first AF | none |
---|
General health | good, very fit, did drink more than prescribed amout - wine, given that up now, non-smoker |
---|
Current state | still ongoing |
---|
Triggers | alcohol, usually triggered an event 24 hours later.
cholcolate
a nights sleep (especially noticable on left side sleeping).
a meal, I first starting getting episodes after lunch, which was often after exercise.
|
---|
Preventions | Off the alcohol, it helps but does not cure the condition.
I am trying a reorganisation of my meal times, i.e. not eating later than 7 pm. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Flecainide, the dose has gradually been increasing, and I am now concerned reading many comments that
the effect wears off over time. I started on 100mg per day, I am currently on 200mg which seems to be working.
The only possible side effect I have noticed are some headaches, but nothing major. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | I had an intrvenous flecainide injection followed by wharfarin when I had my first serious attack (I was cycling
'energetically' and got very dizzy).
Second major event I was cardio-verted, that worked for a few weeks but I was quite badly burnt by the paddles! |
---|
History of surgery | Only the normal sporty knee stuff. |
---|
Future plans | I intend to get a full body reading of my various toxicity levels, any allergies etc., and intend to get a full
nutritional plan. I did not think my diet was that bad, but I am no expert and so will try this route.
I am also keeping a keen eye on the ablation techniques, and will hold the matrix procedure off for as long as
possible. |
---|
Personal comments | While this is a frightening condition, when it is not evident I lead a very active life. I find the social aspect irksome
in that it is disheartening (no pun intended!) to go out for dinner/parties etc. and watch others seemingly eat and
drink whatever they want with no apparent side effects - but heh that's life.
I do have a suspicion that hard exercise in the over forties has something to do with this. I think this is a relatively
recent phenomena (exercise over 40 that is) and I have lost count of the number of people I have talked to who
know someone who has this and is quote 'really fit'. I like most here have not stopped exercising, I have tried to
limit it to < 80% of max, in the theory that keeping fit should help - but I have my doubts!
This is a great database, a shared problem and all that..... |
