Diagnosed condition | PAF |
---|
Years with condition | 4 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | 15 times per year |
---|
Duration of episodes | 6 to 18 hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | none |
---|
General health | very good |
---|
Current state | PAF is a nuisance |
---|
Triggers | caffienated and decaffienated coffee, caffienated cola drinks. Staying up late the night before combined with late-night eating to excess. The onset of an afib episode almost always occurs during a period of relaxation which follows an unusually stressful period or following unusual physical exertion. Ninety percent of my episodes occur on Friday or Saturday, the other episodes occur on Thursdays. |
---|
Preventions | Taking propanolol the night before I suspect that I might be vulnerable to afib. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Per my doctor's instructions, I take proponalol at the onset of an afib episode. It does not shorten the duration of the episode but I feel it dampens the amplitude of the heart beats. I have found the medication is much more effective as a preventative as outlined above. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | none |
---|
History of surgery | none |
---|
Future plans | stay healthy |
---|
Personal comments | Stress management and staying away from the known triggers in my case can probably reduce the frequency of episodes to the minimum. |
