Name | Richard |

Location | Bay Area California |
---|
Age | 71 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | Atrial fibrillation |
---|
Years with condition | 9 |
---|
Frequency of episodes | once a year |
---|
Duration of episodes | less than two hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | gall bladder problems |
---|
General health | until lately very good |
---|
Current state | went into continuous atrial flutter nearly a month ago |
---|
Triggers | Starts while resting. |
---|
Preventions | Daily vigorous exercise prevents attacks. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Started on Flecainide after flutter started. I am on Coumadin in preparation for cardioversion. Will continue Flecainide after cardioversion. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Atenolol, metoprolol made it worse. Cardiologist believes the Flecainide will keep me out of AF. We will see. |
---|
History of surgery | Had pacemaker installed but it is essentially turned of (starts if pulse goes below 30 BPM).
Gall bladder removal. I believe that an inflamed gall bladder caused the atrial fibrillation. Had GERT, numerous bouts. |
---|
Future plans | Cardioversion on October 7, 2010. |
---|
Personal comments | We'll see if cardioversion is the beginning or the end of my problems. At it worse I was have three or four attacks a night. Found that all sorts of stimulants (caffeine, hawthorn, ginger)help Found by experimentation that number of episode related to lack of exercise. A sufficiently rigorous exercise routine prevented AF. . Ginger pills when I couldn't exercise work but too many cause migraines. All this until the attack last month that put me in atrial flutter. |
