Location | Liverpool, UK |

Age | 26 |

Diagnosed condition | Paroxysmal SVT (Nodal) |
---|
Years with condition | 3 (6 mths diagnosed) |
---|
Frequency of episodes | Not frequent, 1 month -/+ |
---|
Duration of episodes | Variable 1-30 minutes |
---|
Event preceding first AF | Amphetimine overdose |
---|
General health | 40 Marlboro Reds per day (quit for 6 months). Regular drinker, though not excessive. Former paratrooper good general health |
---|
Current state | Acceptable level of paroxysms. |
---|
Triggers | Smoking is a definite trigger. Quinine in tonic water. Stimulants obviously (Caffiene, narcotics etc).
Lack of sleep possible and belive it or not, loud music in nightclubs can cause a flutter if the bass is excessive. |
---|
Preventions | Not smoking is all I can say |
---|
Current medications/side effects | Non. I use a controlled diet, plenty of exercise and vagal massage (Valsalva) and breathing against resistance if suffering a paroxysm. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | Non. |
---|
History of surgery | Non. |
---|
Future plans | A tough one. I am re-enlisting with the Army and wish to keep the condition quiet. Exercise and physical exertion seem to have no bearing on any attacks I have, though the lack of sleep during training could be a problem, for that reason I am going to try and control it the way I am doing currently. If I am refused entry or the paroxysms become more frequent I shall consider ablation. |
