Personal commentsstarting at 12 years old experienced STV regularly during vigorous sport workouts. especially prevalent on sports requiring sudden movement such as jumping (basketball, volleyball). was highly conditioned, elite athlete during late teens thru late 20's. as i got older (around 35 or so) condition changed to A-Fib. episodes would occur with no apparent pattern or trigger. i studied every possible cause including diet, sleep patterns, environment, stress, etc. No pattern or cause developed. Episodes would occur sometines twice weekly or sometimes not for 4 months. Very frustrating! The only possible trigger i could discover was alcohol. I was a weekend-only drinker during this period. I gave up all alcohol for 10+ years. That slowed, but did not eliminate the episodes. Most recently, i have given up all caffiene (although i was not really a heavy user - 2 cups of tea a day); and as of 11/11/06 started on regimen of Flecainide (100mgs 2X/day). Have not had an episode since 11/11. But i have often gone this long without an attack. So i have my fingers crossed. I'm told i am not a candidate for ablation based on frequency.
