Virtual Visits aim to make worthwhile educational materials available to children through the use of web browser technology.
This has a number of advantages: browsers are now available for all computer platforms. material can be presented to pupils in an easily accessible and understandable way. reading levels and navigation can be tailored to the age and ability of the pupils studying this topic. Classroom Use This Virtual Visit supports the teaching of history at Key Stages 2 and 3. The language and amount of information on each screen are designed to be within the capabilities of a wide range of pupils. To extend this and allow for progression, there are two levels of text for each area of the guided tour. The level can be selected or changed by the user. It may be used in a number of ways: If a field trip to a castle is planned, these pages can be used in advance to familiarise children with the kind of buildings and structures they are likely to see. After the visit, they form a resource bank which children can refer to as needed. If a real visit is not possible, the pages allow children to investigate the environment for themselves, either taking the Guided Tour or choosing the Explore for Yourself option. The images and text can be saved, edited and used by children as part of their own work. The Activities section consists of pages designed to be printed out and used away from the computer. These pages may be freely photocopied for use within the school. Using the Internet If you have a connection to the Internet, there are many resources on this subject available. However, the Internet is constantly changing. To ensure that resources are currently available, the link below takes you to a managed page. This will be kept updated, with invalid links removed and new sources added. In addition, extra activities will be added. |
