Name | Frankie |
---|
Location | Milwaukee, WI |
---|
Age | 66 |
---|
Diagnosed condition | was Atrial Fibrillation, now A Flutter |
---|
Years with condition | less than one year |
---|
Frequency of episodes | two weeks approximately/getting longer between episodes |
---|
Duration of episodes | couple of hours |
---|
Event preceding first AF | stress of major snow storm driving in/drinking coffee/eating chocolate |
---|
General health | excellent health/do not smoke/one or two drinks couple of times a year |
---|
Current state | had Radio Frequency Ablation October 11, 2005 - the thinking now is this is the first line of defense not drugs - this is my 6th week after ablation each day I feel better - may have to have another procedure |
---|
Triggers | coffee, chocolate, Clariton D, stress, not enough rest, over eating, panic attack. |
---|
Preventions | Only drug I take besides my prescribed ones is Regular Strength Tylenol. I drink only decaff coffee - when I eat out, I do not have coffee - usually drink milk. If I feel an episode coming on I try to relax. I drink bottled water that has not been chilled. I have started to have an episode and took medicine according to my doctor - 2, 50 mg Flecainide and 1, 50 mg Toprol XL - than waited an hour and could repeat it if my Blood Pressure and Pulse don't come down - this worked for me. |
---|
Current medications/side effects | I take Toprol XL 25MG am and pm - Flecainide 100 mg am and pm - Warfarin 7 mg once a day. Flecainide makes me bloated and constipated - I usually eat prunes to help with the constipation. |
---|
Past medications/side effects | allergy to sulfa drugs |
---|
History of surgery | None. Had two children and the Radio Frequency Ablation was a breeze to childbirth. |
---|
Future plans | Plan to continue working for two years than retire. Would like others to know about this Atrial Fibrillation which can become all consuming in one's life. |
---|
Personal comments | I feel that the Radio Frequency Ablation is the way to go - it is much better than the drugs - which are poisons - and do not seem to work after awhile. There is another procedure to cure AF which is with laser. With Atrial Fibrillation it is very frightening - it is constantly in the back of your mind - with modern medicine strides have been enormous in the last two years even - there will be a cure for this condition. |
